Sliding table saws, also known as sliding table panel saws, cut chipboard and MDF panels as well as solid wood components. The sliding table supports and guides the workpiece during cutting, while fences and stops allow it to be positioned for the required cut. Cutting accuracy and edge quality are important for subsequent machining and assembly.
On melamine-faced chipboard, a sliding table saw with a scoring unit produces a clean edge. The scoring blade makes a shallow cut in the underside coating ahead of the main blade to reduce chipping. Depending on the model, blade height, blade tilt and fence position are adjusted manually or electrically. Some configurations include digital readouts and controls for storing position settings.
