Surface planers and thicknessers prepare solid wood workpieces for further machining. A surface planer, also known as a jointer, produces a flat face and an edge at right angles to it. A thickness planer, or thicknesser, then machines the opposite face to bring the workpiece to the required thickness.
A combined planer thicknesser performs these two operations in succession on the same machine. Double-sided planers machine the top and bottom faces in a single pass. The choice between these machines depends on the workpieces and how production is organised.
Key selection criteria include working width, surface planing table length, cutterblock type and adjustment options. For thicknessing, we also check the workpiece size limits and feed speed. The dust extraction system must remove chips in accordance with the machine’s requirements.
Our range includes new and used surface planers and thicknessers. We specify the configuration based on wood species, material dimensions and condition, the required finish and daily production volume.
Delivery, installation, commissioning and operator training are agreed as part of each project, together with the terms of technical support after installation.
